For National Recovery Month in September, our client BHG—committed to helping people recover from opioid addiction—turned to video storytelling. And they wisely made the decision to shine the spotlight on their patients. Our Executive Producer traveled with BHG to their Clyde, NC treatment center, where the clinic director coordinated patients ready to share their inspiring recovery journeys on camera. After scouting the clinic, we selected the best spots available for interviewing the Regional Director and two patients.
To make the most of limited time, we carefully scheduled b-roll (using our DJI Ronin 4D camera) between the interviews we captured with 2 cameras—one of which rigged with our EyeDirect, a patented system of mirrors that make it easy for our subjects to look directly into the lens while telling their stories.
A local production assistant and a lighting package rented locally helped reduce travel costs for our client.
Back in Dallas, we logged the b-roll and transcribed almost 2 and a half hours of interviews, then collaborated with BHG to select the most impactful soundbites for the videos.
Once the post-shoot scripting was completed, we started editing the Clyde Clinic footage into three 2-minute videos; one for each of the two patients and one for the director who won her own battle with addiction.
BHG embedded the final videos on their National Recovery Month webpage (below) and shared social cuts across their channels. And to help BHG to get more bang for their buck, we re-used some of the b-roll from these Patient Recovery Videos in their Brand Video.
Aside from capturing great footage for our client, we took this stunning photo of sunrise at nearby Lake Junaluska…too bad our subjects’ schedules didn’t allow us to shoot there that morning!
